Week 9: End of Metadata and Beginning Spring Break

 

            Hello everyone, and welcome back to my blog. If you did not read the first entry of mine, my name is Hiram Davila. I am a student at the University of Central Florida and will be graduating this semester. This blog post will be following my internship with RICHES Digital Archive throughout the Spring 2023 semester.

 

            This week was the conclusion of my metadata assignment just in time for Spring Break. A bit of reflection on the metadata assignment, I was given a guide when I first got the assignment that helped me understand how to fill out the metadata easier. While I read most of the guide before beginning to write my data, there were some elements that I was still confused about. Lucky for me, the metadata expert at RICHES was a person that I have been in contact with the most since starting my internship. On Thursday, March 9^th, I was able to get a Zoom meeting with him and we were able to go over the different elements and he helped me with the remaining questions I had.

 

            After the meeting, I did a little research into the topic I was writing metadata for. I was writing metadata for the interview that I transcribed in the beginning of this semester. I was able to find a few articles that connected with some of the topics covered in the interview and sent my metadata file off to get one last look and touch ups and then it will be completed. While I had a little experience with writing transcripts in the past for an interview that I conducted for a class, metadata was something new that I have never done. It was a new experience that I am glad I was able to do during this internship.

 

            I am also glad that I finished up that assignment right before Spring Break. While I would have gladly kept working on the metadata if I hadn’t finished before the break, I now have an actual Spring Break with no work to be done for RICHES or for school. That being said, I am eager to come back. I had a brief conversation about the next assignment I will be working on, but still have little idea of what I will actually be doing or what project I will be working on. So while I am enjoying my Spring Break, I will be waiting and ready to continue working once I get back.
