Week 11: History Harvest

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my blog. If you did not read the first entry of mine, my name is Hiram Davila. I am a student at the University of Central Florida and will be graduating this semester. This blog post will be following my internship with RICHES Digital Archive throughout the Spring 2023 semester.      To begin this week, I began working on my assignment that I got last week. To recap, my assignment was to take all the oral histories that RICHES has conducted, filter out the ones where the interviewee was African American, when it took place, a link to said oral history, and a brief description. I have gone through about 30-45 of the videos now, but I have a lot more to go, but I am making steady progress. I made myself a table inside of Excel that helps expedite the process tremendously and helps me keep all the videos organized.        The “main event” for me this week regarding my internship was an event called “History Harvest”. As I stated last week, t

Week 10: New Assignment and Events

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my blog. If you did not read the first entry of mine, my name is Hiram Davila. I am a student at the University of Central Florida and will be graduating this semester. This blog post will be following my internship with RICHES Digital Archive throughout the Spring 2023 semester.    This week started with me meeting with the RICHES team and getting caught up on the happenings that I missed during Spring Break. More importantly, I learned, or rather got reassured, of two events that were happening this week.     The first of which happened on Wednesday. In Sanford, there was a stained-glass dedication ceremony that took place. I was there with Dr. Lester as well as a few of her Graduate students. We observed the ceremony, then explored the city a little bit. This tour included different eateries, an arcade, and the house Jackie Robinson stayed at while he was in Sanford.    The next event is happening tomorrow. It is in Zellwood and is called

Week 9: End of Metadata and Beginning Spring Break

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my blog. If you did not read the first entry of mine, my name is Hiram Davila. I am a student at the University of Central Florida and will be graduating this semester. This blog post will be following my internship with RICHES Digital Archive throughout the Spring 2023 semester.               This week was the conclusion of my metadata assignment just in time for Spring Break. A bit of reflection on the metadata assignment, I was given a guide when I first got the assignment that helped me understand how to fill out the metadata easier. While I read most of the guide before beginning to write my data, there were some elements that I was still confused about. Lucky for me, the metadata expert at RICHES was a person that I have been in contact with the most since starting my internship. On Thursday, March 9 th , I was able to get a Zoom meeting with him and we were able to go over the different elements and he helped me with the r

Week 8: Midterm Reflection

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my blog. If you did not read the first entry of mine, my name is Hiram Davila. I am a student at the University of Central Florida and will be graduating this semester. This blog post will be following my internship with RICHES Digital Archive throughout the Spring 2023 semester.   Unlike other weeks, I do not have too much to report. I have been working on the same metadata I have been for the past 3 weeks or so, but I am coming to a conclusion with it. I have had great support from other RICHES members in figuring out metadata and its different elements plus the different elements that are specific to RICHES metadata. I am ready to finish this assignment up and move on to the next one.   I want to take this week to reflect on my experience of being in an internship in general as this is the midpoint of the semester. When I first began looking to start an internship last semester, I expected to be at a worksite and working X amount of hour
